Surveyor’s Lens

Sense nearby inscriptions, then read them into your Field Journal.

Surveyor’s Lens

Hold Use in the air for one second to send out an amber bearing. The Lens reports a direction and distance above the hotbar, preferring an unrecorded chapter over a familiar one.

The search covers a horizontal radius of twenty blocks and twelve blocks above or below you. It works around the local site; it does not find distant structures or load unexplored terrain.

Use the Lens directly on Inscribed Stone or a Relic Plinth to read its chapter. Sensing a mark does not copy it automatically. If the Lens reports that nothing answers, try another room or level.

Place in the story

The Lens makes the act of looking important. It first helps you notice nearby marks, then asks you to stand before the actual stone and read it. The story is recovered from the rooms themselves, not handed over by a distant quest giver.

Its name fits the surveyors described in Enna’s expedition ledger and the maps and instruments left in Roadkeeper workrooms. Reading it as a surviving survey tool is a thematic connection to that work. No chapter names a particular Lens, its maker or its former owner.

The distinction between sensing and reading matters to the story: a bearing points toward a trace of the past, while the inscription supplies the words. The Field Journal holds those words together after you have moved on.

Inscriptions & evidence

  • III · The ExpeditionThe Expedition explicitly names surveyors sent down a stair beneath the roots; it does not describe the Lens itself.
  • I · The RoadThe Road’s brief written rules are one of the records the Lens can help you recover.
