Words left in stone

The Roadkeepers' story is scattered across twenty sites. Inscriptions carry the chapters; your tools let you find and preserve them.

Find a mark

Hold Use with the Surveyor's Lens in the air for one second. An amber bearing and a direction-and-distance message point toward a local inscription, preferring a chapter you have not copied. The search reaches twenty blocks horizontally and twelve above or below you.

The Lens searches the loaded area around you. It does not locate distant structures. Move through a large dungeon's rooms and levels to look for another mark.

Read it directly

Use the Lens directly on Inscribed Stone or a Relic Plinth. Sensing a mark alone does not copy it. The chapter is recorded on your player.

The sensing pulse has a five-second cooldown. Direct reading has a separate 1.5-second cooldown.

Keep the words

Open the Roadkeeper's Field Journal to reread your chapters. Discoveries survive death and appear in a replacement journal. You can collect them in any order.

Obtaining the journal also teaches the fourteen custom crafting recipes in Minecraft's normal recipe book.

The six inscriptions

Placed inscriptions

Inscriptions around the world have authored chapter states. A newly crafted or replaced Relic Plinth starts with The Road. Mining and replacing Inscribed Stone or a plinth does not preserve its old chapter.

Your recorded journal chapters remain on your player. Changing an inscription block does not erase them.
