Last Lantern Keep

A horseshoe fortress whose great hall and upper library preserve Enna’s last appeal.

Last Lantern Keep is the largest site in the roster by its authoring canvas. Unequal octagonal gate drums frame a deep triple arch, with a landscaped arrival court, raised loggia and clustered roofs beyond. The rooms include a kitchen, storage areas, a council hall and an upper map library.

The Castellan waits inside the keep, accompanied elsewhere by two Lantern Sentinels. Its reward chest holds the Seal of the Last Keeper, a trophy rather than a quest key. Read The Last Light inscriptions in the lower hall and upper library to find Enna’s final appeal. The keep’s notice carries the instruction that runs through the ending: open the gates and keep one light.

Place in the story

The keep holds both the retreat and the appeal to reopen. The Last Light admits that doors were closed until the lanterns served only those inside. Enna’s notice at the gate answers with “Open the gates / Keep one light / Let them through.” The fortified approach and guarded hall make the conflict between shelter and exclusion visible.

Other notices retain the practical promises behind that appeal. One Light for All sends bread to the west wing and puts the sick first. The infirmary reserves a bed for Enna’s return. In the upper library, The Unsent Order says to open the gates at dawn even “If Enna stays lost.” These are records of waiting and instructions to others, not confirmation that Enna died.

The Castellan’s continued hostility does not resolve which instruction it recognizes. Collecting the final chapter or the Seal does not make it open the world’s gates for you. The ending’s invitation is expressed in writing and in the ordinary doors and lamps the Roadkeepers left behind.
