Lantern Sentinels guard several of the larger Roadkeeper sites. Their glowing light and heavy stance make the beginning of an attack visible before the sweep lands. The Signal chapter tells of a sentinel ordered to watch a stair until its keeper returned; the dungeons contain the actual Sentinel encounters.
The Sentinel locks its facing when it starts an attack. Its warning marks the frontal area, then a single sweep follows. It lowers its pose and loses five armor points during recovery, giving you time to answer after moving clear.
Place in the story
The Signal chapter gives the Sentinel’s simplest story image: a keeper orders one to watch a stair until their return, and it has not moved. Its locked-facing attack makes an unyielding watch visible in play, but the writing does not identify every Sentinel in the dungeons as that same individual.
The contrast is sharpest when read beside the keep’s later instruction to open the gates. A guardian can still bar the way while the surviving words ask that others be admitted. Recording those words does not pacify the Sentinels or establish that they understand the changed appeal.
