The Rootbound Cloister combines a cross-plan chapel, flying buttresses, an open arcade and a detached octagonal bell tower. A branched oak breaks through the roof. Refectories, a scriptorium and burial rooms give you reasons to explore both the grounds and the rooms below them.
The connected crypt extends eight blocks below the site’s ground reference. A Rootbound Keeper occupies the chapel level and a Lantern Sentinel guards the lower rooms. Look for The Garden chapter on the inscriptions: it describes the vessel’s burial and roots breaking the eastern door. Their warnings and the building’s walls matter more in combat than rushing straight toward the next chest.
Place in the story
The Garden chapter names the cloister as the place where the vessel was buried. By dawn, roots had broken its eastern door. The tree through the chapel roof and the passage into the burial rooms give that short account a physical setting, but the writing does not explain the vessel’s origin or the full cause of the growth.
The memorial notices ask that the vessel stay below and that the lost keep their light. In the crypt, “Their doors open / No name refused” carries the fellowship’s welcoming language into remembrance. Beside the chapter’s gardener who tends only one tree, those open doors can be read as a contrast between broad care and a purpose that has become dangerously narrow.
