The Ashen Foundry

A sprawling furnace yard with three chimneys, a supported gantry and guarded workshops.

Three furnace sheds and unequal banded chimney stacks give the Ashen Foundry its skyline. Smoke hoods, an exposed gantry, a patternmakers’ shop and quenching yards make the complex read as a workplace. Tooling benches and storage fill the spaces between the large industrial forms.

Two Cinderbound and a Lantern Sentinel remain in the works. Move out of the Cinderbound’s narrow heat warning and keep room to step around the Sentinel’s sweep. The Foundry’s special reward storage supplies a Foundry Hammer and Lantern Fragments. Its Furnace inscription describes the workers sealing their kilns, fleeing to the keep and giving the machines their last order.

Place in the story

The Final Work Docket repeats the failure of water and fire, ending with “Let no one follow.” The Cinderbound and Sentinel still guarding the workrooms put that industrial last order beside an active danger. The site preserves the order; it does not identify what each individual guardian was told.

The Last Casting notice counts six housings, one empty place and no one returned. Those numbers invite comparison with the expedition’s six lanterns, but the notice does not identify the housings or say that they became guardians. The Packing Line’s instruction to “Count travelers / Not every vessel” adds another tension: people once mattered more than objects in the same works where one vessel came to dominate the records.
