A broad stair leads into the Surveyors Lodge, a raised framed house with steep cross gables and a projecting map-room bay. The veranda shelters survey equipment, while desks and shelving turn the upper rooms into a working place.

Look for The Expedition inscription among the maps and storage. It is another place to collect the account of the six lanterns, so the story does not require one particular route through the world. Supply storage may help you put together the journal and Lens for the next site.

Place in the story

The lodge preserves the expedition as paperwork as well as a journal fragment. Survey Office counts six lamps issued, five returned and one vessel sealed. Dispatch / Six orders every light marked, copies sent to the archive and “No second survey.” The maps and workspaces make those instructions part of a working office.

These notices add detail without supplying a complete answer. The Expedition says the surveyors returned carrying the vessel, while the office separately counts returned lamps. Five lamps does not establish five returning people, and the missing lamp is not identified as a particular fragment or relic. The prohibition on a second survey leaves the first journey’s aftermath unresolved.
